MARYLAND BIBLE SOCIETY founded: April 1810 in Baltimore, Maryland
Maryland Bible Society’s vision
and mission is to make all people, everywhere, “people of the Word” through Scripture distribution to churches,
ministries, and Para-church groups working with
Youth and children, young adults and the elderly – from hospitals
and nursing homes to prisons, and from volunteer in mission programs in various states and foreign countries such as Mexico,
the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Russia to evangelism outreach in the city of Baltimore and Washington to educational
programs on the Bible. With a Board of 23 men and women who are ecumenically and ethnically diverse, Maryland seeks
to provide a Bible House Store open five days a week in Baltimore, as well as a secure online Web site for Bible materials.
Although
Maryland has been a state Bible Society for 198 years, it has worked with the American Bible Society to fund the building
of the first Bible House in Beijing, China, Mexico City, Mexico and the Bible House at Cristobal in Panama as well as providing
funds for the Bible printing presses in Nanjing, China. Maryland stocks over 68 different foreign language Bibles and assists
with ministries in the Port of Baltimore. Our motto is: “People of the Word: Many People, Many Traditions – One
Book.” Maryland also has a full line of Planned Giving mechanisms, including Charitable Gift Annuities sold under the
control of the State of Maryland Insurance Commission.
